Re-identification information for your Ninety One Global Strategy Fund Range investment domiciled in Luxembourg

Ninety One recently wrote to investors requesting updated information. We need to do this periodically to comply with the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter Terrorist Financing rules in Luxembourg. If these documents are not received, subsequent transactions will be delayed. The below Q&A provides you with more information.

FAQs

  • Why do we need this information now?

The Luxembourg Anti-Money Laundering Regulations and Counter Terrorist Financing Rules require that we hold current identification documentation for all clients on the share register to meet our Know Your Client obligations. This means that we need to refresh the documentation and information we hold periodically and may need to request information retroactively, which was not required at the time of opening your account.

  • What if my information has not changed?

Even if there have not been any changes, the Luxembourg Anti-Money Laundering Regulations and Counter Terrorist Financing Rules require that we hold current identification documentation for all clients on the share register to meet our Know Your Client obligations. This means that we are required to refresh the documentation and information we hold at regular intervals and may need to request information retroactively, which was not required at the time of opening your account. For that reason, it is still necessary for us to collect your current identification information and documentation.

  • I have sent you this information before. Why do you need it again?

The Luxembourg Anti-Money Laundering Regulations and Counter Terrorist Financing Rules require that we hold current identification documentation for all clients on the share register to meet our Know Your Client obligations. This means that we are required to refresh the documentation and information we hold at regular intervals.

  • What if I’m unable to send you my updated information in time?

To protect your investment, some account activities may be restricted until we receive and accept the original documentation. These are detailed below:

  • We may need to temporarily block the release of redemption and distribution payments.
  • We may be unable to complete some transactional activities such as transfers out of your account.
  • If you are paid distributions from your shares, we may need to change our systems so that these distributions are reinvested in future.
  • Will I ever need to send you this information again?

Yes, the Luxembourg Anti-Money Laundering Regulations and Counter Terrorist Financing Rules require us to update the information we hold for our clients periodically. We will be in touch when we require you to update your information in the future.

If you are a South African investor, we will need to refresh your information every year. This is required since the Financial Action Task Force’s decision to greylist South Africa. You can find further information here.

We may also need to refresh the information of investors in other locations every year should their personal circumstances require us to do so.

  • What is the difference between Source of Funds and Source of Wealth?

Source of Funds refers to the origin of money used for the investment. Examples include: personal savings, pension releases, share sales and dividends, property sales, inheritances and gifts, and compensation from legal rulings.

Source of Wealth refers to the origin of a client’s wealth, i.e. total assets and how they were accumulated. Examples include: inheritances, investments, business ownership interests and employment income.
