Ninety One appoints Samantha Cleyn Head of Institutional, Canada

Cleyn’s appointment is the latest in the firm’s strategic growth plan to expand its footprint in the Americas.

Ninety One, a global investment manager with C$235.3 billion in assets under management (as at 31.12.24), has today announced the appointment of Samantha Cleyn, Head of Institutional, Canada.   With a growing business in Canada, Cleyn will work closely with current members of the Canadian team and be responsible for driving the commercial development of this key market, inclusive of building relationships and raising assets with public and corporate pension plans, foundations and endowments, insurance and wealth platforms coupled with global and local consultant engagement. Cleyn will be based in Montreal, Quebec.

An industry veteran with over 20 years’ experience, Cleyn joins Ninety One from BMO Global Asset Management, where she was Managing Director, Head of Institutional Sales & Service. In this role, Cleyn was responsible for driving the firm’s Canadian Institutional business and led a 10-person institutional distribution team. Prior to this, she was Vice President, Head of Institutional, Canada for T. Rowe Price, where she developed and executed the institutional business plan and was responsible for business development efforts. Cleyn was also a Senior Investment Consultant and Principal with Mercer Canada Ltd. Cleyn has a Bachelor of Commerce from John Molson School of Business Concordia University, and an MBA in Investment Management from Goodman Institute, Concordia University. Cleyn is a CFA charterholder.

This strategic hire is part of Ninety One’s ongoing plan to expand the firm’s North America footprint and to attract top talent across business development, investment and operations. Ninety One has made several appointments to its North American business over the past six months, inclusive of Sangeeth Sewnath, Managing Director and Head of the Americas; Katherine Tweedie and Dana Hildebrandt, Co-Heads of North America Institutional Client Group and Marilyn Rowland, Director of Consultant Relations.
