Ninety One has today announced the appointment of Yan Shterev, CFA, CAIA as Institutional Director, Canada, and Anish Mistry, CFA as Vice President, Canada Institutional, to newly created roles in the firm’s local Canadian business development team. In 2018, Ninety One formally launched its business development efforts focused on Canadian institutional investors as part of a broader effort to expand the firm’s reach in the Americas. Today, the firm has forged strategic partnerships with a broad array of Canada’s leading pensions and endowments who have chosen to partner with Ninety One for its unique investment expertise and sustainability credentials. With these hires the firm now has a local footprint in both Toronto and Montreal.

In this newly created role, Yan will work closely with the Head of Canada to drive business strategy and develop and manage relationships across Canada. An industry veteran with more than 20 years’ experience, Yan joins from Fiera Capital where he was Senior Vice President, responsible for developing relationships with the largest Canadian institutions and a member of the Institutional Leadership Team between 2017 and 2020. Prior to this, Yan was an Analyst on the Canadian Equity team at CIBC Asset Management, looking after Private Wealth Client portfolios. His deep understanding of the Canadian institutional market will complement Ninety One’s existing business development efforts. Yan will be based in Montreal.

Based in Toronto, Anish joins as Vice President, Canada Institutional, where he will play an integral role in business development and existing client relationship management. Anish joins from Sun Life Financial where he spent 10 years as an Investment Consultant and Client Relationship Director. While at Sun Life, Anish was responsible for investment platform design, manager research, fund selection and all aspects of client relationships including onboarding, reviews, and reporting. Anish will play a critical role in driving new business and managing relationships across Canada.

Katherine Tweedie, Country Head-Canada, Ninety One: “We are active investors, and are focused on where we can make a real difference for our clients to help them achieve their long-term investment goals. Yan and Anish’s deep relationships and understanding of the market will ensure that we continue to serve our growing client base in Canada and deliver on these goals.”
