Mark Carney served as Governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 until 2013 and as Governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020. He was also the Chairman of the Financial Stability Board from 2011 to 2018. During his chairmanship of the Financial Stability Board, Dr Carney, along with Michael Bloomberg, was also instrumental in setting up the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) aimed at highlighting the financial exposure of companies to the risk of climate change. Prior to his governorships, Dr Carney read economics at Harvard and Oxford, where he completed his doctorate, and worked at Goldman Sachs as well as the Canadian Department of Finance.

Since leaving the Bank of England, Dr Carney has been appointed as United Nations special envoy for climate action and finance. In January 2020, UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, appointed him to the position of finance advisor for the UK presidency of the COP26 United Nations Climate Change conference scheduled to take place in 2021.
